What can I expect during a typical Reiki session?

Whilst lying comfortably in our quiet and cosy garden studio (or at home with an online session), the session will start with a short grounding meditation. The practitioner will then begin to place their hands either on or just above the body to channel the healing powers of reiki to the client. A typical session will last for 60 minutes and will focus on the seven main chakras (energetic centres within the body), and the practitioner will work from head to toe, finishing with aura cleansing and grounding. Reiki sessions can also be paired with sound healing, using crystal bowls and the gong - a reiki and sound session usually lasts around 90 minutes. After the session it is recommended that you drink lots of water and to relax to give your body the support it needs while healing and integrating the session.

What can I expect during a typical Sound Healing session?

A group session will take place in a local studio and you will lie down and get comfortable on a mat with blankets and pillows. The session will then start with a short guided meditation before you float away to sounds of the gong, crystal singing bowls, chimes and more. A typical session will last for 60 minutes with an opportunity to share your experiences and chat afterwards. After the session it is recommended that you drink lots of water and to relax to give your body the support it needs while healing and integrating the session.

Is the session safe for everyone?

Sound healing is considered safe for most people. However, sound healing may not be suitable for individuals with the following conditions and they may need to obtain permission from their healthcare professional before they can attend a session. Please get in touch if you have any questions and ensure to let your practitioner know about any conditions before attending a session. Conditions: Epilepsy, history of seizures or any condition that could be triggered by sound, a pacemaker, metal implants, screws or pins as the instruments may resonate with the metal, first trimester of pregnancy due to the sensitive nature of pregnancy during this time and third trimester of pregnancy, serious mental illness. 
As with any new therapy, it is recommended to consult with your healthcare provider before trying sound healing if you have any medical conditions or concerns. Sound healing should not be used as a replacement for traditional medical treatments. It can be used as a complementary therapy to support overall health and well-being, but it is not a substitute for medical care.

How often should I attend Sound Healing sessions?

Who can benefit from Reiki?

Anyone can benefit from Reiki! There are no limitations for who or what it can help and it has little to no reported side effects. It is a safe method in which the client is in control of their own healing so they can never receive too much or too little. Reiki has reported benefits for clients suffering with stress, anxiety, depression, cancer, physical aches and pains, emotional issues, insomnia, life difficulties, burnout and many more. It induces the rest and digest response in the body so the receiver is better able to mentally cope with pain or discomfort, or may be able to view it differently. Once you relax, deep healing and/or recovery from illness takes place. Reiki has been known to increase energy, happiness and motivation, and can complement other treatments you are receiving. Reiki should not be used as a substitute for other medical treatment prescribed by your healthcare providers, or be used against medical advice.

What is Reiki and what does it feel like?

Reiki is an energy healing technique that seeks to promote wellbeing by balancing energy in the body and energy field to reduce stress, encourage relaxation and decrease physical pain. Reiki activates your parasympathetic nervous system and induces a deep relaxation response, encouraging you to heal spiritually, physically, emotionally and mentally.

Common sensations during a Reiki session include hot and/or cold in the body, tingling sensations, pins and needles, seeing colour or visions/memories, emotional release, pressure or heaviness, muscle twitches and minor body movements, deep meditative states, falling asleep, or sometimes nothing at all. Everyone has different experiences from each other and between each session, the best way to understand Reiki is to experience it yourself!
